Understanding the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
Your CAS is an electronic record generated by your sponsor university on the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) database. It is valid for 6 months and contains your personal details, course fees, deposit paid, and the qualifications used by the admissions team to assess your offer.
- Verify that your passport number and full legal name match your passport exactly.
- Ensure all tuition fee deposits paid are accurately credited on the CAS.
- Request a draft CAS from the university before final issuance to spot typos.
Financial Proof: The 28-Day Money Rule
UKVI requires international students to demonstrate sufficient funds to pay remaining first-year course fees plus 9 months of living expenses (£1,334/month for London or £1,023/month outside London). Crucially, these funds must remain continuously in the bank account for a minimum 28 consecutive days before the date of application.
- The end date of the 28-day period must be within 31 days of submitting your online visa application.
- Never allow the balance to drop even a single pound below the required threshold during the 28-day window.
- If using parental accounts, obtain an official birth certificate and a signed letter of consent.
Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) & Biometrics
Every student visa applicant must pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), granting full access to the UK National Health Service (NHS). You will book a biometric appointment at a VFS Global / TLScontact visa application center for fingerprints and digital photo capture.
UKVI Credibility Interview Preparation
Random applicants may be invited for a brief credibility interview. Visa officers will ask why you chose your specific university, how your degree aligns with long-term career aspirations, and how you will finance your stay without relying on unauthorized work.
